Do I need to go in the water with my child?
No, the children are taught with the swim instructor in the water to assist so there is no need for you to enter the water. There is seating poolside for parents/spectators.
Does my child need to bring armbands?
No, all lessons conducted by Splash and Swim are within shallow water initially to allow children to develop water confidence. The only artificial aids we use are floats and woggles and these are provided.
Should my child wear goggles?
Children are discouraged from wearing goggles initially until they develop water confidence and are able to submerge into water. Goggles can be worn at a later stage if required to assist and develop stroke technique.
From what age can a child be taught to swim?
Children can be taught in a group format from approximately 3 ½ years of age. For safety reasons they need to be able to follow instructions, e.g. to remain at the side of the pool if asked to do so while the teacher assists someone else. Younger children can be taught on a 1:1 basis or in a parent and toddler class where the parent is also in the water.
Should my child attend swimming if they have been unwell?
If a child has a cold please be aware that the higher temperatures of the hydrotherapy pool can exacerbate the symptoms. For sickness and diarrhoea your child will need to be 48 hours clear of illness before returning to lessons.
